Ardnt-Schultz Law
Two medical scientists (Ardnt and Schultz) tested substances on seed germinations. They discovered that a large quantity of a substance would destroy life, a moderate quantity would inhibit life, and small quantities would stimulate life! This is exactly what Hahnemann found when using remedies on his patients.
Less is more in homeopathy.
Homeopathy is incontestably one of the safest healing therapies in the world today because of its use of the minimum dose (sometimes referred to as infinitesimal dose). Concurrently homeopathy is possibly the most effective healing therapy in the world today for healing people from chronic conditions because of the use of the minimum dose. With minimum doses there is no toxic destruction to the individual from the therapy. The vitality of the individual is never weakened by use of an infinitesimal amount of a remedy, unlike most modern drugs. As Samuel Hahnemann (The father of modern homeopathy) developed homeopathy he found that because of the use of the Law of Similars the dosage could be extremely small to be successful.
The smaller the amount of actual substance used, as a remedy creates a surprisingly stronger, deeper, longer, and more profound healing response. This is unquestionably the hardest concept in homeopathy to be understood and accepted, especially by western medical institutions, because it is the antithesis of how western drugs are used. Remember western drugs and therapies are used to dominate the body into submission and suppression with the use of large quantities. And, more force is seemingly better. Homeopathic remedies are used to stimulate the bodys own healing powers to heal itself with the least necessary quantity presented.
Non-existent substance in chemistry.
We know in chemistry how after a certain number of dilutions there is no longer any of the original substance left. That threshold is called Avogadros Number. Many of the remedies are diluted far beyond Avogadros Number. In fact any remedy beyond 12C or 24X far surpasses it. This extreme dilution of remedies is frequently used by critics of homeopathy to discount the fact of homeopathys effectiveness. I personally feel their criticism is understandable. Without having experienced and observed the effectiveness myself, I would have had an extremely difficult time resolving this seeming paradox of response. However, as millions like myself will contest the proof is in the use. Most critics will not even attempt to explore the use themselves, several who have eventually became homeopaths.
However, to be fair remedies are not just diluted. Remedies go through a process of violent shaking and stirring at every level of dilution. At every level of dilution a new substance is formed. So, in reality there is never a dilution of new substance, which goes beyond Avagadros Number, or even close. This process is what allows the remedy to still be effective although the original crude substance is filtered out to eliminate all potential toxicity.
For more information on how remedies are made look in the Homeopathic Remedies, section for a description of the processing of the remedies. This processing of the remedies (known as succussion or trituration) is why the remedies still have action beyond any quantitative substance. Without this processing the remedies are ineffective.
The proof is in the pudding.
How could these remedies with extremely little or in some instance no substance, work? To tell you the truth nobody has come up with an acceptable theory to resolve this question to date. However, in laboratory experiments it works (including Ardnt-Schultz Law), for 200 hundred years it has worked, for millions of people it has worked, so empirical science tells us that it does unquestionably and dramatically work, but to date we can only guess at how. Homeopathy is an empirical science, which means homeopathy is completely based on observation, not theory. In other words, Homeopathy works on practical common sense and complete observational science, not theory.
Of-course after two hundred years there are many hypotheses on how the minimum dose works (the most promising being through modern physics), but to date, none have been formally accepted. The interesting thing about having a science completely based on observation is it becomes extremely trustworthy, far more then a science based on hypothesis and theories. When healing is based on theory then it leaves treatment open to the next newer more exciting theory. Treatment based on theories has a tendency to become faddish using therapies based on popularity and money as opposed to healing.
When our homeopathic remedies are used clinically, the choices are made from proving their effectiveness in two separate procedures. One, the remedy has been proven homeopathic to the condition expressed (like cures like). Two, the remedy has proven effective in actual clinical use. Either way, the minimum dose has proven itself more effective for healing safely then crude amounts in millions of people for over two hundred years.
The minimum dose is common sense.
Again there are no theories, which have been completely accepted, but common sense can play a part in our understanding why these minimal remedies become more effective in actual healing as compared to crude medicinal substances. First as mentioned above there is no weakening of the vital strength of a person from minimal substance as opposed to toxic crude substance. Second, research experimentations show how minute substances always stimulate life. But third, using infinitesimal substances allows the immune system to be an active participant, instead of a victim to the healing agent. In fact using minute amounts would demand that any healing would occur solely from the person.
When strong drugs or surgeries are used to force the body to change there is no chance someones body had learned to take care of itself. With the use of strong therapies or substances, any change had obviously come from the outside not from any healing force from inside the individual. Furthermore, the shock alone from toxicity or trauma would make it apparent the individual would be weaker and less able to take care of himself without continuous exterior intervention, which creates an addiction to further strong substances, or therapies.
A persons body is completely left out of the loop when strong outside force is used. But, when extremely small amounts of substances are used there is no possibility of outward force causing the active healing action. The only possible change is from the person, and the entire force of healing that person can rally becomes available. Minute substances are unable to debilitate, but they are proven to stimulate in millions of people, and proven by Ardnt-schultz law to stimulate life in general. Therefore, the minimum dose is the only common sense, empirically proven, safe, and effective choice for using a substance to stimulate healing from an individual.
